Experience or enthusiasm

When it comes to getting the job, which should win out? Years of experience or masses of enthusiasm?

Two PAs go for the same job. The first, a senior PA, lots of experience, a glittering CV with bags of enthusiasm. The second, a junior PA, hard worker, great skills, bags of enthusiasm. At a first guess you would say the senior PA would be the successful candidate. All that experience counts for a lot. But what about someone more junior, would they have more passion for the role because they haven't been working for as long? Is the senior PA jaded, been there, seen it, done it – does this go in her favour or against her? We could argue the pros and cons all day long, but the most important thing here is the 'fit'. Who fits in with the culture, will get on with everyone in the office, make a small office or team a fun place to be a part of? People are more creative and get more done when they're relaxed – who will encourage that relaxed atmosphere? You can have the best PA skills in the world, but at the end of the day the successful applicant will be the person who’ll get on with the team, and the one people will naturally gravitate towards.
