Chef Brian Maule was at Le Gavroche before opening his own restaurant in 2001, specialising in French classics such as canon of lamb fillet with crushed peas and baked chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream. A two-course lunch is £16.50, without wine. Alternatively, the former Union Bank of Scotland building is now an impressive looking bar and restaurant, perfect for a drink after work. Called The Corinthian Club (0141 552 1101, www.thecorinthianclub.co.uk), it has lots of different spaces for entertaining including a piano bar, cocktail lounge, private members’ bar and nightclub.
