Thousands of secretaries who commute to the office will have found that their New Year has got off to a costly start thanks to the price hikes for many season tickets.
Although the Government promised ‘fair pricing for train travel’ when it came into power last year, the reality is that certain journeys are now hundreds of pounds more expensive per season. For example, commuters between Tonbridge and London are now expected to pay £5,192, up 12.7% on last year.
Now, the Campaign for Better Transport is lobbying the Government to relent. This week, writer and adventurer Michael Palin launched its campaign, Fair Fare’s Now. To find out more, or join the protest, visit: http://bettertransport.org.uk/fairfares/node/16
