Forget cappuccinos and muffins, put aside that after-work glass of wine. The new way to reduce workplace stress is a glass of pomegranate juice.
This news was revealed by researchers at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh – commissioned, we should add, by a leading pomegranate juice company. Nevertheless, their findings appear convincing.
Apparently, a 500ml glass of the red stuff can reduce the cortisol levels (stress hormone) in saliva and also reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure, making you feel more relaxed.
‘On the basis of these findings, there is a justified argument for busy workers to drink pomegranate juice to help alleviate chronic stress and maintain good health,’ says Dr Emad Al-Dujaili, who led the study.
Dr Al-Dujaili also reported that 60 of his volunteers felt more enthusiastic and less distressed after having the fruit drink.??Other health benefits attributed to pomegranates include lower cholesterol levels and a reduced risk of Alzheimer’s and arthritis.
